The Garter Toss

Much like the bouquet toss and the garter removal, the garter toss is one of those strange traditions that shows up at almost every modern wedding. It started back in the early to medieval times when it was considered good luck to tear off and own a piece of a bride's dress. Once lucky enough to steal a piece of the dress, if you were unmarried you would have the luck to someday marry. Well, this strange tradition eventually evolved into a groom removing the garter of his bride to toss to all the unmarried men at the reception so that the catcher gets lucky. It sure beats bruising the bride, as I bet she'd tell you. And it's still good luck to catch the garter even though you didn't steal it. However the tradition started, it remains one of long-standing tradition at most modern wedding receptions.

A Groom Gives His Best Garter Toss For His Receivers

When selecting a garter toss song, a wedding planner would be smart to keep in mind all the single gentlemen who are out on the dance floor. A good song would probably express manhood or manly things like toughness or strength. Perhaps the best garter toss songs are ones that express unluckiness in that some men see catching the garter as a loss of their independance and a step closer to commitment. Whatever song desired, from clasical to contemporary to humorous, Digital DJz has a large selection of various songs that fit the bill in almost any situation. Just make sure that if you decide to include this tradition with your reception, that you pick a good song because with the garter toss, the hardest part isn't usually finding the right song but instead getting all the single guys to the dance floor. The right song can cure that problem in a flash.

We have included a list of some of frequently used or popular garter toss songs below and we encourage our clients to go over the list and then look for them in our on-line database, listen to them, and decide whether or not that specific song is right for their needs.
